In 2021, the former Ace Hotel in the heart of East Liberty reopened with a new name and new management. Now known as The Maverick, the hotel has been quietly hosting guests and private events through Kasa, a technology-led management company. ELDI even hosted our impact report launch party there last September.
But if you’ve missed the old days when the hotel was abuzz with activity, then we have some good news. The Maverick has recently brought on the event production company Flyspace to ramp up events in the historic building (including weddings).
We spoke with Flyspace Event Manager, Ellie Simmons, to talk about what’s in store.
Tell us a bit about Flyspace.
Flyspace Productions is a woman-owned event production company that keeps its hand in every aspect of the Pittsburgh events scene, including festivals, concerts, corporate events, art installations, hospitality management, and more. Some highlights include Picklesburgh, Three Rivers Arts Festival, and Highmark First Night. With robust experience in so many areas of Pittsburgh events, Flyspace Productions and The Maverick were a perfect match!
How will Flyspace be assisting The Maverick with its events?
Flyspace will be running the event department at The Maverick from end-to-end: from marketing and first contact with prospective clients, to closing out at the end of the night. We are so excited to have a hand in bringing this iconic space back to the forefront of the rich Pittsburgh venue scene.
What kind of events can The Maverick accommodate?
The Maverick has four distinct spaces suited for a wide range of events. We’ve seen corporate, wedding, non-profit, and sporting/wellness events thrive in this space, but are always looking for a new challenge!
Here’s an overview of the available spaces:
The Ballroom: Featuring crown molding, high ceilings, beloved checkered floors, and a built-in stage, the ballroom is a favorite for weddings, private parties, and fundraisers. Or set it theater-style for a speaker event that will wow any crowd.
The Gymnasium: With an old-school (literally) feel, and unconventional yet historic elements, the gymnasium is unlike any other space you’ll find in the city. This space can truly bend to fit any event, from corporate meetings and team building by day, to black tie affairs by night.
The M Bar: Located on the first floor, the M Bar highlights the unique characteristics of the over-century-old building. I love it for cocktail hour or a unique space for a breakout chat. It comes pre-styled and set, so all you have to bring is the fun.
The Mignonette: Our beloved blue room! Though the smallest of our four event spaces, The Mignonette makes a big impression. Adorned with original architectural details, window-lined walls, and a cozy lounge setting, it is perfect for a bright and airy daytime gathering or an intimate evening affair.
Does The Maverick plan to re-open the bar on the ground floor?
Everyone should certainly stay tuned for the reopening of the best bar in the East End and check out The Maverick’s socials for more updates. We’re currently working hard behind the scenes to make sure the re-opening is worthy of our awesome neighborhood.
Does The Maverick plan to host any community events?
Now that we’ve developed our private events playbook, Flyspace is certainly looking forward to programming the space for the community. Be on the lookout for special events at the bar, live music, and wellness events to come. We’ll keep the community updated on our socials and website.
What else would you like people to know about this new era of event hosting for The Maverick?
We’d like people to know that we’re open to new concepts and imaginative uses of the venue, and want to make your event dreams come true. Flyspace is beyond excited to be a part of this project, working hand-in-hand with every department at The Maverick. Our goal is to continue to share this historic space with the East Liberty community and beyond.
